Valerie Douglas is the Owner and CEO of Irresistible Desserts, and she believes every celebration deserves a cake that feels personal, thoughtful, and unforgettable.
Learning to Serve with Heart
Valerie’s journey began with a deep love for hospitality and creating experiences that make people feel cared for.
She studied Hospitality Management at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she learned how every detail—from warm service to thoughtful presentation—can transform an ordinary moment into something memorable.
Surrounded by mentors and immersed in the world of events, food service, and guest experience, Valerie discovered that baking allowed her to bring all of those elements together: beauty, flavor, and heartfelt hospitality in one delicious centerpiece.
From Classroom to Cake Studio
In 2015, Valerie returned to St. Maarten and began working as a special education teacher. She poured her heart into the classroom, supporting students and families while baking on nights and weekends for loved ones.
It was her husband who first encouraged her to see her baking as more than a hobby. He saw the joy that each cake brought and the way Valerie’s attention to detail and creativity lit up every occasion.
With his support, Valerie took a leap of faith and baked the very first cakes under the name Irresistible Desserts—a small home-based venture that quickly became a beloved part of local celebrations.
Finding Hope After the Storm
When Hurricane Irma struck the Caribbean, life changed overnight. Like many families, Valerie and her loved ones faced difficult decisions about safety, home, and the future.
In the aftermath of the storm, Valerie and her family relocated to Curacao—a new island, a new chapter, and an opportunity to rebuild.
Irresistible Desserts found a new home at the Goisco Shopping Complex, where Valerie began serving customers in Curacao. The support, feedback, and kindness of those early guests helped transform a challenging season into a hopeful new beginning.
Staying Committed, No Matter What
Like many small businesses around the world, Irresistible Desserts faced new challenges during COVID. Events shifted, celebrations became smaller or postponed, and the way people gathered and ordered desserts changed almost overnight.
Through these seasons, Valerie adapted—relocating, refining processes, and continuing to serve customers with the same commitment to quality, safety, and hospitality.
Each cake became an even more meaningful symbol of joy: a way to mark birthdays, weddings, and milestones in a time when every celebration felt precious.
A Home-Based Bakery with Heart
Today, Irresistible Desserts operates as a home-based bakery in Curacao. Valerie welcomes each order into her kitchen with the same care and creativity that started this journey.
Every cake is handcrafted—from sketch to final decoration—with attention to flavor, texture, and design. Whether it’s a simple celebration or a multi-tiered showpiece, each dessert is treated as a one-of-a-kind creation.
For Valerie, baking at home isn’t just about convenience. It’s about staying close to the heart of her work: creating meaningful, personal desserts that feel like they were made just for you.
